Beginner Wheel

Discover the secrets of making pots on the potter’s wheel. This course will teach students how to throw basic forms such as bowls, cups, and vases using high-temperature clays. Students will also learn about firing procedures and how to create surface decoration using glazes, stains, and slips. Participants should wear old clothes and bring a one-gallon bucket, an old towel, and a beginner's set of pottery tools to class. (Buy at Michael’s or I have sets for sale.) Designed for students with little or no clay experience. Meets once per week.


Mondays, 6:00 – 8:30 pm or Wednesday, 6:00-8:30 pm

Wheel Throwing 201

Continue working with both wheel-throwing and handbuilding techniques. Using high-temperature clays and glazes, students will challenge their skill level to create functional wares such as bottles, lidded containers, teapots, and plates. Designed for students who are able to center clay on the wheel and who feel comfortable throwing cylinders. Bring pottery tools. (Michael’s or I have sets for sale.)

Handbuilding 101

Learn how to create with clay! In this introductory course, students will learn basic handbuilding techniques, including slab rolling and construction techniques, pinch and coil pot techniques as well as slump and hump molding techniques. Glazing methods and surface decorating techniques will be explored. Participants should wear old clothes and bring a one-gallon bucket and an old towel to the first class. Designed for students with little or no clay experience.
